IPA CIS Aitmatov Prize awarded to honored artist from Azerbaijan

Bishkek, Nov. 22, 2024. / Kabar /. A solemn ceremony of awarding the Chyngyz Aitmatov Prize of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS) was held today in St. Petersburg.

The laureate of the prize was the artistic director of the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theater, writer-journalist, director, Honored Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Zaur gizi Alekperzade.

The award was presented by Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament Nurlanbek Shakiev and Chairperson of the Council of the IPA CIS, Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko.

Speaker Nurlanbek Shakiev noted that this award is a recognition of the numerous merits of Mehriban Zaur gizi Alekperzade in the literary field, her contribution to the development of literature, the rapprochement of cultures and the strengthening of friendship between the CIS countries.

Mehriban Zaur gizi Alekperzade thanked for the honor bestowed upon her. "I am very happy because I have been awarded the prize of my favorite writer and philosopher Chyngyz Aitmatov, an author of universal scale. His work miraculously combines national color and universal values. The Kyrgyz people gave us and the whole world such a unique, phenomenal writer and thinker," she said.

The prize was established in 2012 at the initiative of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic. It is awarded annually for achievements in the field of literature, outstanding original works and multifaceted literary activity. Candidates for the prize are submitted to the Standing Commission of the IPA CIS on Culture, Information, Tourism and Sports.
