Bishkek, Feb. 8, 2022. / Kabar /. The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Kyrgyz Republic hosted a reception on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Iran and Kyrgyzstan.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Kyrgyzstan Said Kharazi recalled that Iran was one of the first to recognize the independence of the Kyrgyz Republic, and from the very beginning tried to expand relations between the two countries in various fields.
“Over the past thirty years, more than a hundred documents on cooperation in various fields have been concluded between the two countries, and one can clearly trace in the content of all these documents the determination and serious will of the top officials of the two countries to expand relations. Although over the past two years, for various reasons, including the problems caused by the coronavirus, the process of relations between the two countries has somewhat slowed down, the trend of relations in previous years has always been upward,” the ambassador said.
Meanwhile, the preferential tariff agreement concluded between Iran and the five member states of the Eurasian Economic Union has led to a notable jump in Iran's trade with the countries of the union over the past two years, bringing the volume of trade between Iran and the five members of the EAEU to more than USD 3.5 billion.
Kyrgyzstan, the ambassadorsaid, is in fourth place among the five countries of the EAEU. He expressed hope that with the chairmanship of Kyrgyzstan in the organization, the rapid development of bilateral and multilateral relations with Iran will begin.
“There is hope that with the finalization of the free trade agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union, we will feel the growth of relations in the near future. The chairmanship of Kyrgyzstan in the EAEU this year is a unique opportunity to expand Iranian-Kyrgyz relations. The start of the process of Iran's permanent membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, achieved with the support of all member states, including Kyrgyzstan, promises further positive changes in relations between the two countries. The new government in Iran and the current government in Kyrgyzstan have demonstrated in recent months that they are determined to use the existing potential of the two countries more effectively and pave the way for direct contacts for the economic entities of the two countries,” Kharazi said.
The Iranian government, the ambassador said, has declared its readiness to provide its port facilities and preferences for the transportation of goods needed by Kyrgyzstan and intends to hold an exhibition of its goods in Kyrgyzstan in the future. In the field of agriculture, significant steps are also being taken for mutually beneficial cooperation and good conditions have been created for the exchange of experience and investment, the ambassador said.
“Today, Iranian products in all sectors can satisfy many of the country's needs, and Kyrgyzstan has many opportunities and advantages for the trade and economic entities of our country. In the field of tourism, the two countries plan to attract tourists from each other's countries. The province of Khorasan-e-Razavi, being one of the provinces of Iran bordering Central Asia, has expressed interest in cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, and has great potential and motivation for cooperation in various sectors and the development of interregional cooperation,” Kharazi said.
The ambassador added that one of the most important areas in which the two countries can cooperate is energy. He noted that Iran's experience in the construction of hydroelectric power plants is a good opportunity that the government of Kyrgyzstan can use. In the oil and petrochemical sectors, Kharazi said, Iran can also provide part of Kyrgyzstan's needs.
“I hope that as a result of the mutual visits of high-ranking officials of the two countries this year, which are on the agenda of bilateral relations, including the visit of the President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic to Iran, and the visit of the Speaker of the Majlis of the Islamic Council to the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as the holding of 13rd meeting of the Joint Economic Intergovernmental Commission in Bishkek, we will witness the dynamics of the development of relations between the two countries in the coming months. I believe that the 30th anniversary of the establishment of relations can be a turning point in the relationship between the two countries, and with the further simplification of the ways of relations and contacts between various political, economic, trade, cultural and social sectors, mutual awareness, openness and interconnection between the two peoples will be increased to the maximum," ambassador concluded the.
