Bishkek, March 12, 2021. / Kabar /. An issuance of new electronic passports (foreign passports) of Kyrgyzstan will be resolved within 2-3 months, Prime Minister of the republic Ulukbek Maripov said in an interview with the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Kyrgyzstan.

He said electronic passports should have already been issued in December 2020. However, the pandemic was an obstacle to the implementation of this project.

At the same time, Maripov noted responsible individual officials, for which one deputy head of the State Registration Service (SRS) was dismissed and others were reprimanded.

"We openly told the people about it, because every month about 40 thousand people change their passports of the 2004 and 2006 sample because of their expiration dates. Due to this situation, we adopted a resolution to extend the validity of the passports of 2004 and 2006 until Sept. 1, 2021. As you know, Kyrgyz citizens can leave for Russia and Kazakhstan with ID-passports, but to Turkey or Europe, for example, only with ordinary passports," he said.

Ulukbek Maripov added the Registration Service said that the issuing of passports will be resolved within 2-3 months.

"The passports themselves have come. What is not solved is the issue of programs and entries in the computer. These are only organizational questions," the prime minister noted.
