Bishkek, May 5, 2022 / Kabar /. Aida Kasymalieva, Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan to the UN in New York, took part in the High-Level Thematic Discussion on the topic “Sustainable Tourism at the Basis of Inclusive Recovery”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The thematic debates were organized at the initiative of Chairman of the UN General Assembly Abdullah Shahid together with the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the report said.
The event was attended by UN First Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed, UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili, as well as heads of state bodies of member states for tourism.
An informative fire side chat discussion was also held, which provided an opportunity for discussion between key actors in the tourism sector.
In her speech, Aida Kasymalieva informed that Kyrgyzstan, being a mountainous country, has a rich natural and environmental potential for the development of domestic and international tourism. At the same time, she noted that the country's tourism sector is facing numerous problems, which have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and outlined key areas in solving these problems.
Within the framework of the event, a meeting was also held between Permanent Representative Aida Kasymalieva and UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili, during which an exchange of views took place in the tourism field.
