Issyk-Kul Forum has changed the world attitude towards Kyrgyzstan - memories of its organizers

Bishkek, Oct. 5, 2018. /Kabar/. The International Issyk-Kul Forum participants recalled the great thinkers who were its originators.

At the plenary "Chyngyz Aitmatov and the Challenges of Modernity" meeting a short film was shown with historical photographs of individuals who participated in the dialogue of the first platform.

The organizer of the 1st Issyk-Kul Forum, Rustem Khairov, noted that it was this event that contributed to a positive change in the attitude of the world community to Kyrgyzstan, that they began to consider the country as a partner and friend.

The 1st Issyk-Kul Forum was held from October 14 to 17, 1986. Then, 18 prominent creative people in the world, the most famous and leading figures in the field of literature, culture and art of that time, gathered on the shore of Kyrgyz “pearl”.

Their meeting was initiated by Chyngyz Aitmatov and included discussion of global problems of the future of the humanity on the threshold of the 21st century, as well as exchange of views on them.

Among the participants were:

- Academy Award winner of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, writer, playwright, film director and actor Peter Ustinov (Great Britain);

- Scientists-futurists from the US - Alvin and Heidi Toffler;

- Writer-playwright, President of REN-club Arthur Miller and James Baldwin (USA);

- Actor David Baldwin (USA);

- Winner of the Alfred Nobel Prize Claude Simon (France);

- Head of the Club of Rome Alexander King (Italy);

- Scientist, teacher Augusto Forti (Italy);

- Artist Afewerk Tekle (Ethiopia);

- Writer Yaşar Kemal (Turkey);

- Writer Lisandro Otero (Cuba),

- Singer, composer Ömer Zülfü Livaneli (Turkey);

- Scientist Federico Mayor (Spain);

- Musician Narayana Menon (India);

- Scientist Akbar Tursunov (USSR);

- Sociologist Rustem Khairov (USSR) and Chyngyz Aitmatov (USSR).
