Bishkek, May 11, 2022. / Kabar /. The 10th International SCO Issyk-Kul Marathon "Run the Silk Road" will start in Cholpon-Ata on May 14, head of the Directorate of the International Marathon Melis Nadyrov told reporters at Kabar News Agency.
He said that the international marathon is held in order to strengthen the integration of the SCO member states, develop internal and external event tourism, promote a healthy lifestyle, and involve the population in regular physical culture and sports.
“The marathon is dedicated to the memory of Satymkul Dzhumanazarov and is held under the auspices of the SCO marathon series. Today, more than 3,000 people are scheduled to take part in the race, including teams of the SCO member countries, members of the track and field athletics team of the Kyrgyz Republic and all running enthusiasts,” he said.
Nadyrov also informed that races for different distances are planned within the marathon:
- marathon 42 km 195 m;
- half marathon for 21 km 97 m, 10 km and 3 km;
- Nordic walking for 3 and 10 km.
“The prize fund is KGS 1 million 44 thousand (only for distances of 42 and 21 km). In addition, to the absolute championship with gender division, athletes in the age category from 35 to 44 years old, 45-54 years old, 55-64 years old and over 65 years old are taken into account and awarded,” the director said.
It should be noted that in 2021 the Issyk-Kul marathon joined the "Label Road Races" calendar published by "World Athletics", which includes 191 races in 49 countries. In addition, since 2019, the marathon has been part of the SCO marathon series.
At the same time, “Run the Silk Road” has been qualifying since 2021 and gives professional athletes the opportunity to get a ticket to the Asian Games, the World Championships and the Olympic Games if they meet the standards.
