Issyk-Kul to host international marathon "Run the Silk Road"

Bishkek, April 10 / Kabar /. The sixth international marathon of Kyrgyzstan "Run the Silk Road" in memory of Satimkul Dzhumanazarov will be held in Cholpon- Ata town, the press service of the State Agency for Youth, Physical Culture and Sports of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The marathon program included running for amateurs (5, 10 km), a half marathon for 21 km and a marathon for 42 km. On May 12, there will be a children's race, where children from 7 to 13 years old will participate.

Director of the State Agency for Youth, Physical Culture and Sports Kanat Amankulov said that, as soon as the Cholpon-Ata road reconstruction is completed, the marathon will be certified and enter the list of international marathons that are included in the category of the international federation of track and field athletics.

About 2000 people are expected to participate in the marathon. To date, runners from 26 countries have confirmed their participation. Participants, from among persons with disabilities, are also invited, about 60 people are expected to attend, chairman of the board of the NGO "Directorate of the International Marathon" Melis Nadyrov said.

Satimkul Dzhumanazarov is a marathon runner, the bronze prize-winner of Olympic games of 1980 in a marathon. The only marathon runner from the post-Soviet space, who managed to get the pedestal of the Olympic marathon.
