Bishkek, Mar.12, 2020 /Kabar/. Ceremony of signing of notes of exchange between the Embassy of Japan in Kyrgyzstan and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on support for electoral process in the Kyrgyz Republic took place on Mar.11, 2020.
The ceremony was attended by Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurjan Shaildabekova, Chairman of the State Registration Service (SRS) Akyn Mambetaliyev, Japanese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Shigeki Maeda and UNDP Resident Representative to the Kyrgyz Republic Louise Chamberlain.
Nurjan Shaildabekova noted the support of Japan and UNDP has been given since 2015.
"Support for purchasing equipment in 2015 for biometric voter identification has become an important contribution to achieving credibility, transparency, increased competitiveness and inclusiveness of elections in the Kyrgyz Republic," the chairwoman said.
The CEC head noted that in order to effectively use the funds, it was decided to leave the purchased equipment on the balance of the SRS for use in inter-elections period, and during the elections the CEC will receive the equipment for temporary use.
SRS Chairman Akyn Mambetaliyev also expressed his gratitude to the partners for their timely assistance, noting the importance of ensuring uninterrupted process of identification of citizens in the framework of the Year of Regional Development, Digitalization of the Country declared by President of Kyrgyzstan.
