Japan to render assistance to Kyrgyzstan in COVID-19 battle

Bishkek, July 14, 2020. /Kabar/. The Japanese Government will provide Kyrgyzstan with modern medical equipment to fight COVID-19 coronavirus infection, the press service of the Embassy of Japan in Kyrgyzstan said.

Today, July 14 Japanese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Shigeki Maeda and Kyrgyzstan's Finance Minister Baktygul Jeenbayeva signed an exchange notes concerning provision of grant aid by the Japanese Government under the "Economic and Social Development Program" in the amount of JPY 500 million (approximately USD 4.6 million).

"In view of the current situation with the spread of a new type of coronavirus infection, the Government of Japan has decided to provide the necessary modern, high-quality medical equipment in accordance with the needs of the Kyrgyz side as an emergency measure to assist in the fight against coronavirus. Given the emergency situation, the Japanese side has implemented this project in an accelerated manner," the report says.

High-quality medical equipment, the list of which has been identified by the Kyrgyz side (MRI and CT and other equipment) will be distributed among medical institutions that take the main burden for treatment of coronavirus patients.

The Japanese side hopes that the assistance provided will facilitate the work of medical personnel in the fight against coronavirus infection, improve diagnostic and patient management capabilities, and help strengthen the health system of Kyrgyzstan to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
