On August 24, 2023, as part of a visit to Germany, negotiations were held in the city of Berlin between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Jeenbek Kulubaev and the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Annalena Baerbock.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the talks, the sides discussed topical issues of Kyrgyz-German cooperation, the results of the official visit of the Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Kyrgyzstan, which took place on June 22-23, 2023, as well as the mutual organization of visits at the highest level.
“The Federal Republic of Germany has been and remains one of the key foreign policy partners in Europe and at the international level,” said Jeenbek Kulubaev at the beginning of the meeting.
For her part, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock also outlined the importance of further expanding cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, including within the framework of the Germany-Central Asia dialogue platform.
The heads of the foreign ministries of the two countries discussed the expansion of economic cooperation, taking into account the upcoming second meeting of the Kyrgyz-German Business Council, scheduled for November 2023 in the city of Hamburg, the mutual increase in trade turnover and the attraction of German investments in such promising areas as agriculture, tourism, renewable energy sources, information technologies and more.
The parties also considered the actual interaction in the field of environment and ecology. In particular, attention was paid to issues of cooperation within the framework of the regional initiative of the German Foreign Ministry "Green Central Asia", aimed at solving environmental problems and climate change, developing a Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change and implementing projects of environmental German organizations in Kyrgyzstan.
The heads of delegations stressed the potential for cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy, renewable energy, climate protection and other interested areas related to the green economy. In this regard, the Kyrgyz foreign minister informed his German counterpart about the initiative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic SadyrZhaparov to restructure the country's external debt, including through its exchange for financing projects in the field of "green economy" and suggested more active interaction between our countries in this direction.
A separate topic of the meeting was the strengthening of cultural and humanitarian ties.
The parties also discussed cooperation in the Central Asian region, the situation in Afghanistan and other topical issues of international security.
As a result of bilateral negotiations, a Joint Statement of Intent was signed to expand cooperation between the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and the government of the Federal Republic of Germany. The document reflects the intentions of the parties to further develop cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Germany in the field of politics, economics, investment, climate, "green economy", culture and other areas.
