Tashkent, Nov.29, 2019. /Kabar/. “There is importance to implement major infrastructure projects in the field of transport and communication, linking the region with global markets,” President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov stated at the Second Consultative Meeting of Heads of Central Asian States in Uzbekistan’s capital city Tashkent.
The President said the development of the system of transport and communication corridors, ensuring the access of Central Asian countries to foreign markets, is of special importance for the region.
“It is important to implement major infrastructure projects in the field of transport and communications, which link us with global markets. This will contribute to interregional trade and economic cooperation, attraction of foreign investments and advanced technologies. For us, as part of the ancient Great Silk Road, the expansion of international roads and railways, the creation of logistics centers and transport terminals are of priority importance.
In this regard, in order to create favorable conditions for the free movement of goods and services, we need to continue joint work on the development of transport and transit corridors in all possible directions. I propose to improve our cooperation on cargo and passenger transportation in the region or transit through the territories of the parties in a simplified manner," he said.
As Sooronbay Jeenbekov noted, the issue of increasing transit potential by improving the quality of existing and building new roads is very important for Kyrgyzstan.
He said currently the country is building 13 main roads. The largest project in the road sector is the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway. Its successful implementation will significantly improve the transit potential of the entire region, which as a bridge is to connect Europe and Asia.
