Ashgabat, Aug. 23, 2018 / Kabar /. Presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow discussed water and energy problem in Central Asia. This topic was one of the most important aspects during the Kyrgyz-Turkmen talks held in Ashgabat.
Berdimuhamedow said that here Turkmenistan's position was and remains unchanged. He said that consideration of water and energy problem should be based on universally recognized norms of international law, their solution should be implemented on the principles of mutual respect and consideration of the interests of all the states of the region. To discuss these issues, it is necessary to involve authoritative and competent international structures, primarily the UN.
The sides noted that the solution of water and energy problems in the region, the rational use of water resources on the principles of equality can become a powerful factor uniting neighboring states.
The topic of water resources will also be discussed at the summit of the heads of the founding states of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, which opens on Aug. 24.
Jeenbekov will take part in this Summit as an honored guest.
