Jeenbekov holds talks with WB Vice President for Europe and CA Anna Bjerde

Bishkek, June 16, 2020. /Kabar/. President Sooronbay Jeenbekov held Tuesday talks with World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde by videoconference, his press service reported.

The current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation, the course of implementation of joint projects, as well as measures to overcome the negative economic consequences of the coronavirus infection pandemic were discussed.

The President congratulated Anna Bjerde on her appointment to a high position, noting that the World Bank is one of the country's priority partners in the implementation of development projects.

Sooronbay Jeenbekov stressed the Kyrgyz side is determined to interact more actively and closely with development partners.

He once again thanked the World Bank for being one of the first banks to start supporting Kyrgyzstan in its fight against coronavirus infection.

The Kyrgyz leader emphasized readiness to work actively on timely implementation of projects in the fields of energy, transport, agriculture, regional development and clean water supply despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Anna Bjerde expressed gratitude for cooperation, noting with satisfaction the active cooperation of the Kyrgyz side with the WB office in the Kyrgyz Republic.

As she noted, combating the negative effects of coronavirus proliferation has been identified as a priority for the World Bank at this time.

To date, the Bank has allocated USD 21 million to the health sector in Kyrgyzstan to fight the pandemic.

In addition, new projects to support small and medium-sized businesses in responding to the crisis, and to provide social support to the population during the economic downturn are being prepared.
