As part of his working visit to Osh Oblast of the country, President Sooronbay Jeenbekov inspected a new building of the laboratory of the Department of Plant Quarantine of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Industry and Reclamation, located in Osh city, his press service reported.
Kyrgyzstan’s Agriculture Minister Erkinbek Choduyev said that under the Agreement between the Kyrgyz, Russian Governments on technical assistance in the process of accession of Kyrgyzstan to the Eurasian Economic Union in 2018, USD 240 thousand was allocated for the construction of a new quarantine laboratory building in Osh.
To date, the construction is fully completed, the laboratory meets international standards.
The laboratory is also provided with modern laboratory furniture and equipment worth KGS 17.5 million under the intergovernmental agreement.
Today, the laboratory conducts entomological, bacteriological, mycological, phytogelmintological and herbological studies and analyses.
The main purpose of quarantine laboratory of plants is to determine the phytosanitary status of crops in accordance with international requirements on the basis of modern technologies, the determination of phytosanitary status and increase the export potential of domestic agricultural products.
Digitalization activities are planned that will improve the work of the laboratory, e.g., acceptance of applications and verification of documents will be done online.
The Kyrgyz president toured the new two-storey building, the equipment used, as well as a mobile laboratory based on a car equipped with all necessary equipment.
During the conversation with the laboratory staff, Jeenbekov recalled how several years earlier farmers in the regions had had problems with selling their products, also due to imperfect laboratory infrastructure.
The head of state added that for this purpose the laboratories continue to be upgraded to international standards.
