Bishkek, Jan.16, 2020. /Kabar/. Today, Jan. 16 Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov held a traditional meeting with children who lost their loved ones in a plane crash in Dacha-Su village, Sokuluk region of Chui Oblast on Jan.16, 2017, his press service said.
President Jeenbekov noted with sorrow that the crash of Boeing 747 cargo plane in Dacha-Su village, which killed dozens of citizens, including children, is a tragic event for the entire Kyrgyz people.
He once again expressed his condolences for the loss of life, stressing that it was an irreparable and great loss not only for the families and friends of the victims, but also for all Kyrgyzstanis.
The Kyrgyz leader assured relevant state bodies and local authorities will pay constant attention to solving various social and domestic issues.
He wished the children who lost their relatives and friends in the plane crash good health, long and prosperous life.
Relatives and friends of the victims expressed gratitude to the head of state for the attention and support provided to them by the country's leadership. They shared and talked about the pressing issues of their lives.
At the end of the meeting, Sooronbay Jeenbekov presented children with memorable gifts in the form of books and electronic tablets.
2017 Dacha-Su plane crash
At 07:19 local time on Jan. 16, 2017, the aircraft crashed nearly 1 km beyond the end of runway 26 at Manas International Airport in conditions of thick fog.
It crashed into terrain and destroyed several houses.
A total of 39 people were killed in the crash: all four crew members and 35 residents of Dacha-Su, a residential area located approximately 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) to the west of the airport. Among the dead were 17 children.
Fourteen people on the ground were injured, including a number of children. Nineteen houses were destroyed at the crash site, and a further seven were damaged. Manas International Airport was closed, with all flights cancelled, following the accident.
According to official reports, the aircraft flying to Istanbul landed at Manas International Airport in Kyrgyzstan for refueling.
A year after the plane crash, on Jan. 13, 2018 ,a monument to the victims was erected in Dacha-Su village.
