Bishkek, March 27, 2020 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov today, March 27, met with Neil McCain, Regional Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for Central Asia.
At the meeting, topical issues of cooperation were discussed, the implementation of joint projects was considered, the president’s press service reported.
The head of state noted that the EBRD is a reliable partner of the country, which provides significant support in the implementation of infrastructure projects in Kyrgyzstan. He expressed gratitude for the assistance in the implementation of irrigation projects, projects to provide the population with clean drinking water.
The EBRD Director for Central Asia emphasized that promoting the implementation of the above projects and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises remain the Bank's priority areas of activity.
He assured that the EBRD will continue to carry out operational work on the issues mentioned and on the timely implementation of existing projects.
Neil McCain also praised the country's banking system, noting its stability in the current situation.
In addition, an exchange of views took place on the consequences of the spread of coronavirus infection in the main sectors of the domestic economy.
Sooronbay Jeenbekov discussed with the EBRD the possibility of attracting budget support and funds for preferential financing of the private sector and financial and credit institutions of Kyrgyzstan.
In turn, Neil McCain informed about the planned measures of the EBRD to support and concessional financing of the private sector, in particular small and medium-sized businesses in this situation.
He stressed that the EBRD will propose emergency financing mechanisms to maintain the liquidity of commercial banks in Kyrgyzstan and concessional financing of municipal enterprises in the field of housing and communal services.
