Bishkek, March 26, 2020. /Kabar/. President Sooronbay Jeenbekov met with Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic Eduard Auer, his press service reported Thursday.
The Kyrgyz President stressed the EU is an important partner of the country in the implementation of major development projects, provides assistance in promoting digital transformation, reforming the education sector.
He expressed concern about the spread of coronavirus infection in the EU countries, expressed hope for a speedy improvement the epidemiological situation.
Jeenbekov also noted that to date, due to the spread of coronavirus infection there are risks of underfunding the expenditure part of the republican budget of Kyrgyzstan. There is also a need to finance emergency measures related to public health protection, food security and implementation of anti-crisis measures.
The head of state suggested the European Union to consider providing additional assistance to the country to minimize the negative effects of the spread of coronavirus infection.
Eduard Auer expressed support for Kyrgyzstan in its fight against the disease. He added information about the country's economic situation and the necessary support has been sent to EU headquarters for consideration.
He assured that the EU will consider the best options to provide financial support to Kyrgyzstan.
In addition, the head of the EU delegation to Kyrgyzstan said the Union also allocates funds to fight the spread of coronavirus infection through the World Health Organization system.
To date, a total of 44 cases of coronavirus infection were registered in the republic.
