Bishkek, Nov. 15, 2018. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov spoke Thursday at the II International Conference on “Islam in Modern Secular State”, which took place at Ala-Archa state residence.
The President warmly welcomed the guests from near and far abroad, expressing his great appreciation for the interest in the issues and topics that are planned to be discussed at the Bishkek platform.
“The topic of the conference is relevant in all countries of the world. The issues that will be addressed at this site are acute and of serious concern. In this regard, the questions that will be raised during the Conference will help Kyrgyzstan to improve the interaction of religious and secular structures,” Jeenbekov said.
He pointed out that every state should attach great importance to the traditions and culture of its people, and the religious system in the country should be determined on a constitutional basis. At the same time, as the President noted, the policy and strategy of sustainable development of a secular state should take into account the religious views of the people.
In addition, the president indicated that the pursuit of the path for independence in Kyrgyzstan created the conditions for a multi-religious nation, and the state does not impose one faith or another on the people. But, as Jeenbekov stressed, this was the reason for the fact that many religious movements with destructive purposes were born and began to spread in the country.
“Kyrgyzstan is working to spread true Islamic values and is taking measures to counter such forces. Public authorities are making joint efforts to address such phenomena. Work in this direction will be continued,” Jeenbekov said.
The II International Conference on "Islam in Modern Secular State" will be held within two days, from 15 to 16 November. It is attended by experts, scientists in the field of theology and religion from 20 countries of the world, as well as representatives of government agencies and international organizations who will discuss the following topics during plenary and breakout sessions:
- Models and practice of religious and theological education;
- Coverage of religious issues in the mass media and the Internet;
- The role of religious women in modern society;
- The role and place of youth in a modern multicultural society.
In addition, reports on relevant topics on religious issues will be read.
The conference is organized by the State Commission on Religious Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.
