Bishkek, Dec.17, 2019. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Jenish Razakov held meeting with United Nations Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues Fernand de Varennes, the Government’s press service said.
During the meeting, Deputy PM Razakov noted that readiness of Kyrgyzstan to receive the Special Rapporteur shows the openness of the country to cooperation with the UN special procedures, and readiness to improve national mechanisms to ensure and protect human rights and freedoms.
“In accordance with the Constitution, no one may be subjected to discrimination on the basis of gender, race, language, disability, ethnicity, religion, age, political or other beliefs, education, origin, property or other status, or other circumstances.
In order to improve the mechanisms for ensuring the protection of human and citizen rights and freedoms, and the implementation of international human rights obligations, the Human Rights Coordination Council under the Government was established in 2013.
In accordance with the recommendations, following the submission of national reports on the implementation of international human rights instruments by the Kyrgyz Republic, an Action Plan on Human Rights for 2019-2021 was adopted on Mar.15, 2019," said Jenish Razakov.
UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues Fernand de Varennes noted the importance of today's meeting. He spoke about the objectives and mission of his visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, and informed he had previously held meetings with representatives of a number of state bodies of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as about his visits to Osh, Dzhalal-Abad and Batken Oblasts.
During the meeting, the sides discussed topical issues in the field of ensuring and protecting the rights of minorities.
