Bishkek, Aug. 24, 2024 /Kabar/. Joe Nation is the first rider to reach the finish line of Silk Road Mountain Race 2024 (SRMR2024) in Cholpon Ata, completing the 1939 km course in a time of 6 days 18 hours 10 minutes, silkroadmountainrace reported.
“From the start of the race he always maintained a position where he could contest for the overall win, never far from the very front. He aimed to look after himself and his bike and stay within shooting distance when the time came.
It was on the way into Kochkor that he made his move, overtaking Tom Schwemberger on the tarmac of Dolon Pass. He increased the pace and was able to break clear of Tom going over Shamshi. One final push over Kok Ayrik pass and he could cruise into Cholpon Ata in first place.
This was a race that was very close, for a very long time. For days, the lead exchanged hands, with the gap between the top riders minimal and the pace extremely high. In the end though only one rider was able to keep up this pace to the finish line. Joe rode most of the last 24 hours out front in the lead, not having the motivation of someone to chase ahead of him. What an incredible ride, chapeau Joe,” the report said.
The opening of the international cycling marathon Silk Road Mountain Race 2024 took place in Bishkek on Saturday, Aug. 17.
The cycling marathon, in which more than 170 people from 35 countries are taking part, will end in Cholpon-Ata town of the Issyk-Kul region on Aug. 31.
The route, with a length of 1,938 km and an altitude gain of about 30,460 m, passes through many mountain passes, picturesque valleys, and the lakes of Son-Kul, Chatyr-Kul, and Issyk-Kul.
