Journalist Zhumabaev presents his historical work about great chess players

Bishkek, Aug. 1, 2018. / Kabar /. The presentation of the book by journalist Bolotbek Zhumabaev about the great chess players "Shahmat Zalkarlary" took place at Kabar News Agency.

The author said that the basis of his work was personal experience and long-standing archival materials collected at the tete-a-tete meetings with the heroes of the book.

"I actively participated in the chess life of the republic, when I worked as a correspondent for the youth newspaper" Leninchil Zhash." In those years, the chess life of Kyrgyzstan was in full swing. Frunze (current Bishkek) often hosted the USSR championships among men and women. Thanks to the active efforts of the enthusiast Akylbek Muratbekov, the capital of Kyrgyzstan in those years turned into a chess center of the country," Zhumabaev shared his memories.

He noted that interest in chess tournaments 40 years ago in Kyrgyzstan was very high, and various events were held annually, which brought together eminent chess players who were glorified throughout the world.

"As a journalist of a youth newspaper and a chess fan, I participated in all these matches and talked with many eminent chess players. My interlocutors were Gary Kasparov, Anatoly Karpov, Maya Chiburdanidze, Lev Psakhis, Nano Ioseliani. In 1985, I even managed to fight on the chessboard with the famous Georgian chess player Nona Alexandria in Moscow, where the World Festival of Youth and Students was held," Zhumabaev said.

Impressions from meetings with outstanding personalities, their sharp statements and features of the strategy have united into a single story in one book.

This book was formed based on the personal archive and materials collected since 1981, the author said.

He also said that the book is issued in a circulation of 1,000 copies. It will be sent to the libraries of the country, and also sold in bookstores.

President of the Chess Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic Milan Turpanov, on behalf of the entire chess community of the country, expressed his gratitude to Zhumabaev for his work and noted that such useful literature will help to educate in youth not only respect for chess, but also to revive their love to books.
