Bishkek, Dec. 23, 2024. /Kabar/. The Kyrgyz National Philharmonic named after Toktogul Satylganov is hosting on Monday a gala event dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Kyrgyz power industry.
“Today we celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Kyrgyz power industry. Work in this industry began in 1934. For 90 years, small HPPs were built. Since 1960, construction of large HPPs began. On the instructions of President Sadyr Zhaparov, all HPPs are being modernized,” Energy Minister of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibraev noted.
He added that the modernization of three units at the Toktogul HPP is now complete. Each modernized unit adds 60 MW of capacity. In 2025, the modernization of the fourth unit will be completed, which will add another 240 MW to the total capacity of 1200 MW. This will ensure uninterrupted operation of the Toktogul HPP for 50-60 years, without the need for repairs.
In addition, the Uch-Kurgon HPP, built in 1962, is also undergoing reconstruction, which began last year. There are four units there, and today the first of them is being commissioned. One unit will be commissioned each year.
“We have plans to build new hydropower plants. Our biggest and most important project is Kambar-Ata-1. This is a megaproject. About KGS 4 billion have been allocated from the republican budget. To date, preparatory work is underway. A tunnel is being laid, a bridge, a road, power lines, and housing for workers are being built.
Three neighboring countries - Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, agreed to jointly build this hydropower plant. Negotiations have been held. I believe that the feasibility study will be completed, and within 6-6.5 years this HPP will be built,” the minister said.
