Bishkek, Feb. 11, 2020. / Kabar /. Karakol state nature park is located in Issyk-Kul Oblast. It was created in 1997 in order to preserve unique natural complexes, forests of objects of the animal and plant world, which have special environmental value for a favorable combination of natural and cultural landscapes, their usage in recreational, educational, scientific and cultural purposes.
More than 300 species of plants grow in the nature park, 7 species of them are listed in the Red Book of Kyrgyzstan. The nature park is a place of abundant growth of the Tien Shan spruce, tree and shrub species, such as common pine, larch, birch, willow, barberry, rose hip, sea buckthorn and others.
More than 40 species of mammals and more than 100 species of birds live here. Many of them are listed in the Red Book of Kyrgyzstan.
The total area of the Karakol nature park is 38 thousand 134 hectares. The park territory is divided into four functional zones: the zone of ecological stabilization of 1 thousand 249 hectares, the protected zone of 22 thousand 938 hectares, the zone of tourist and recreational activities - 173 hectares, the zone of limited economic activity - 13 thousand 774 hectares.
Karakol gorge is one of the picturesque gorges of Teskey Ala-Too. Its local inflows are very beautiful.
Above the forest zone, the gorge bifurcates. The northern branch leads to the Karakol peak, and the southeastern branch to Ala-Kol Lake located at an altitude of 3440 m above sea level.
Ala-Kol Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes of the Teskey Alatau Range. The name Ala-Kol is translated from Kyrgyz – as colorful lake. The lake has a glacial origin: the glacier after the retreat and now occupies the upper part of the valley. There are no islands on the lake. The coastline is 6.8 km long.
The panorama of the Karakol nature park is one of the uniquely beautiful places along the Kashku-Suu gorge. From the slopes facing the valley, an indescribable beauty panorama of the city of Karakol and Issyk-Kul Lake opens up.
The climate of the park is characterized as continental and of great diversity. The higher the site, the lower the air temperature, the higher the relative humidity, the greater the amount of precipitation, the greater the height of the snow cover, earlier frosts come and end later.
The Karakol ski resort is located in the park among majestic coniferous forests at an altitude of 2300 m above sea level on the slopes of the Tien Shan. It works all year round. In winter, air temperature rarely drops below -5 degrees during the day. The Karakol ski base during the Soviet Union was used to conduct training for the USSR Olympic team.
