Bishkek, Feb.13, 2020. /Kabar/. Kazakh citizens who have arrived in Kyrgyzstan because of riots in the Korday District are returning, head of the main border control department of the State Border Service (SBS) of Kyrgyzstan, Col. Nurlanbek Dzhalbiyev said at a briefing today.
"When this situation occurred, our checkpoints and border units switched to a reinforced regime of state border protection. There were no restrictions on our part. The main influx of citizens from Kazakhstan was on Feb.7-8 and in the morning of Feb.9. According to our Kazakh counterparts, more than 24,000 citizens of Kazakhstan crossed the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border these days. Today we see these citizens leaving for their homeland," he said.
Spokeswoman of the SBS Gulmira Borubayeva said all Kazakh citizens who crossed the border had documents
“There were no illegal crossings of the state border," she added.
Ten people died and hundreds were injured as a result of an interethnic conflict between Dungans, a group of ethnic Chinese professing Islam and Kazakhs in two villages in southern Kazakhstan, New Europe reported.
As a result of the mass brawl, several dozen private houses, retail outlets, and cars were damaged and burned. According to the latest data, 50 people were hospitalised in clinics.
On Feb.7, 2020, on the outskirts of the village Masanchi (95% of inhabitants are Dyngans nationality), in the Kordai District, Zhambyl region in southern Kazakhstan near Kyrgyzstan border, a fight took place between residents. It is assessed that several dozen people took part.
