Kazakhstan takes responsibility for trucks' congestion at border: Kyrgyz Gov't

Bishkek, June 6, 2020. /Kabar/. The Government of Kyrgyzstan told about the situation at the Kyrgyz-Kazakh section of the state border.

According to it's press service, at the Aktilek-Avtodorozhnyi checkpoint (on the Kyrgyz side), due to increased inspections by the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan, a congestion of more than 500 trucks was formed, resulting in an 8-kilometre traffic jam.

A retreat with the participation of representatives of the Kyrgyz and Kazakh delegations was held on June 3, 2020 at the Aktilek-Avtodorozhnyi and the Karasu (on the Kazakh side) checkpoints.

During the above-mentioned meeting, the sides conducted time metering to determine time of trucks' crossing through Aktilek-Avtodorozhnyi and Karasu checkpoints. There was a significant difference in the timing of checks carried out by the two countries.

"According to the results of the timing, the passage of trucks through the Karasu checkpoint was longer than on the Kyrgyz side," the report says.

During the meeting, Kazakhstan admitted that the congestion was caused by the Kazakh side and assured of informing the central leadership of the country about the reality of the situation. The timing results show that the Kazakh side has violated earlier agreements and provisions of the EAEU Treaty reaty," the statement reads.
