Kumtor gold mine brings Kyrgyzstan $300 mln in 2.5 years

Bishkek, May 29, 2024. /Kabar/. “Over the past two and a half years, we have received a profit of $300 million from the Kumtor deposit,” Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Presidential Administration of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov told at a forum in Bishkek.

He said that the state assets in 2015 amounted to 310 billion soms, in 2020 - 420 billion soms, or increased 1.5 times over five years. Currently, state assets amount to 824.2 billion soms and have doubled over the past three years.

“The reason for such achievements was also the elimination of corruption. Its main “disease” was Kumtor. Dividends received from Kumtor from 1994 to May 2021 amounted to $100 million, and over the last two and a half years we have made a profit of $300 million. On the occasion of the centenary of the formation of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region, we confidently declare that, based on our fruitful work, a new era has begun in the financial sector of the Kyrgyz Republic,” said Akylbek Zhaparov.
