Bishkek, Jan.23, 2020. /Kabar/. Kumtor mine will resume production in the coming days. The day before Kumtor Gold Company CJSC has received the relevant permission from state bodies, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Mining and Metallurgy Trade Union of Kyrgyzstan Eldar Tadzhibayev said.
He said the State Committee for Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use of the Kyrgyz Republic has agreed on a plan to develop mining operations at Kumtor mine for 2020.
"Due to the accident at the mine's dump, waste rock will now be stockpiled at the Chon Sary-Tor and Kichi Sary-Tor dumps. At present, the company is carrying out preparations to resume mining operations," he said.
More than 500 people currently idle will start working according to work schedules.
Earlier, according to Kumtor Gold Company’s order, due to an accident at Kumtor mine dump, temporary suspension of mining and drilling and blasting operations, and absence of mining permits in 2020, Kumtor mine was declared idle from Jan. 3, 2020 for an indefinite period.
Note that early in the morning on Dec. 1, 2019, a landslide of waste rock dumps occurred at the Kumtor Mine. During the evacuation, it turned out that two of the workers were missing- Omurbek Ishenbekov and Zholdosh Zhunushov.
The search for the missing two Kumtor employees at the mine was stopped on Jan.10, 2020 with the approval of their families.
