Bishkek, March 9, 2019 / Kabar /. The official reception on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the State of Kuwait and the Kyrgyz Republic is held in Bishkek at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on March 6.
The event was attended by heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and other government agencies and public organizations.
The State of Kuwait recognized the independence of the Kyrgyz Republic on December 26, 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on December 14, 1994 in Moscow (source: http://mfa.gov.kg/contents/id/id/98).
Within the framework of dynamically developing bilateral cooperation between the countries, it is worth noting the following positive points, such as:
1. Political cooperation (Signing of inter-parliamentary agreements on cooperation between the Legislative Assembly of the JogorkuKenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic and the National Assembly of Kuwait in 2002, the opening of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the State of Kuwait in 2011);
2. Cooperation in the field of education (Opening of the Kuwait University in Bishkek (1998), training of Kyrgyz students in Islamic colleges of Kuwait);
3. Humanitarian cooperation (restoration of 300 houses destroyed by an earthquake (1992), financing a number of social projects in Kyrgyzstan);
4. Economic cooperation (Providing loans for modernization and development of the infrastructure of the Kyrgyz Republic).
Addressing his welcome speech, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Kuwait HE MrTareq Abdullah Alfaraj noted that the two countries have close relations developing since the signing of the document on establishing diplomatic relations in 1994, when the parties made progress in political, economic and cultural spheres. Within the framework of political interaction, meetings were held on the sidelines of several international conferences at the level of foreign ministers. Recently there has beeb an exchange of visits at the level of deputy foreign ministers.
Speaking about economic cooperation, Mr. Ambassador pointed out that there are 8 agreements exist between the two countries, the most important of which are the Agreement on the avoidance of double taxation, the Agreement on promotion and protection of investments, and the Agreement on economic cooperation. The countries actively cooperate in the framework of the Kuwait-Kyrgyz intergovernmental commission, which was held in the State of Kuwait last year and will be held in October this year.
He also highlighted the cooperation between the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and the Kyrgyz Republic, which began in 1996. During this time, the Fund has provided four loans in the amount of 15 million Kuwait dinars, or about 49 million dollars.
In the field of cultural cooperation, the parties exchange mutual visits. Most recently, the Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism of the Kyrgyz Republic visited the State of Kuwait with a large team from Kyrgyzstan to take part in the National Heritage Festival.
The Ambassador of Kuwait also paid attention to the work of Kuwait’s public charitable organizations, which presented many development projects in all areas related to human and individual development.
In conclusion, HE Mr. Tareq Alfaraj expressed confidence that the cooperation and special relations existing between the State of Kuwait and the Kyrgyz Republic would bear fruit and achieve positive results for the benefit of the two countries.
In turn, the Guest of Honor - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurlan Abdrahmanov on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic congratulated the people of Kuwait on the National Day and the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the State of Kuwait. He stressed that the Kyrgyz Republic attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation with the State of Kuwait, which is based on common religion, historical, cultural and spiritual roots.
With the opening of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the State of Kuwait in 2013, Kyrgyz-Kuwaiti relations reached a new level, and the first visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic to the State of Kuwait in 2015 laid the foundation for the development of bilateral relations.
In the end of his address, the Deputy Minister expressed his conviction that Kyrgyz-Kuwaiti relations have a great potential for expanding comprehensive and mutually beneficial relations. Kyrgyzstan is interested in further enhancing of trade, economic and investment cooperation, in particular, in the establishment of agricultural exports and air traffic between the countries.
