Kyrgyz ambassador to Italy takes part in online event timed to International Day of Mountains

Bishkek, Dec. 11, 2021. / Kabar /. Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Italy Taalay Bazarbaev took part in an online event held under the auspices of the UN Agricultural and Food Organization (FAO) "Sustainable Mountain Tourism", timed to coincide with the International Day of Mountains, which is annually celebrated on Dec. 11, the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said.

The event was attended by FAO Director General Qu Dunyu, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization Zurab Pololikashvili, Andorran Foreign Minister Maria Ubach, Swiss MP Christine-Bouillard-Marbach and other distinguished guests dealing with the agenda for mountain cooperation.

Speaking at the event, Bazarbaev noted that the International Day of Mountains was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2002 at the initiative of Kyrgyzstan and since then has been annually celebrated at a high level. The Kyrgyz ambassador spoke about the work carried out by the Kyrgyz side to promote the mountain agenda, the development of mountain tourism in Kyrgyzstan.

Ambassador Bazarbaev noted the successful campaigns carried out by Kyrgyzstan for the adoption of the resolution "Nature knows no borders" at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly and the resolution "Strengthening monitoring and research of mountain glaciers" at the 41st session of the General Conference of UNESCO, and also drew particular attention to the initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic to adopt a resolution of the UN General Assembly on declaring 2022 as the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development. Taking into account that this document will be considered by the UN General Assembly in the coming weeks, Bazarbaev urged partners to support him and join the list of co-authors.
