Bishkek, Feb. 26 / Kabar /. Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Republic of Korea Askar Beshimov met on Feb. 24, 2017 with Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund Mr. Howard Bamsey, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
During the conversation the sides discussed the issues of cooperation and participation of the Kyrgyz Republic within the framework of the programs of the Fund on adaptation to climate change. Ambassador Beshimov informed that the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic gives priority to climate change issues and consistently implement the principles of "green economy" in the country. The government also develops plans and take measures tosolve ecological problems. At the same time he said that for the implementation of the tasks its necessary to have significant resources with the participation of international experience and climate finance on a sufficient scale.
Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund, Mr. Howard Bamsey supported the Kyrgyz Republic’s measures aimed at adaptation and resolution of climatic and environmental problems in the country. At the same time he stressed the importance of setting priorities in this area and their inclusion in the national government program for the medium and long term. He assured that the Fund is ready to support Kyrgyzstan in this direction. In this regard, he said that the Supreme Council of the Green Climate Fund approved a project proposal of the Kyrgyz side to strengthen the capacity of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry of the Kyrgyz Republic, as the plenipotentiary national body to work with the Fund in the amount of $ 300 thousand. For this purpose international experts will be sent to Bishkek in March of this year for evaluation and preparation of further work plan with Kyrgyzstan.
At the end of the meeting the sides discussed the possibility of the visit of the Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund, Mr. Howard Bamsey to Kyrgyzstan.
