Kyrgyz Ambassador to US takes part in conference "Changing Central Asia in Greater Eurasia"

Bishkek, March 26, 2018. / Kabar /. Georgetown University in Washington hosted on March 22 a conference on "Changing Central Asia in Greater Eurasia", the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

During the conference, Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United States and Canada Kadyr Toktogulov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United States Yerzhan Kazykhanov, Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the United Nations Ambassador Bakhtier Ibragimov, as well as diplomats and academics from the United States, China and other countries shared their views and discussed the development and strengthening of cooperation between the two countries of Central Asia, as well as the growing role of the Central Asian region in the Eurasian space.

Ambassador Toktogulov in his speech said that the first summit of Central Asian leaders held on March 15, 2018 in Astana, is a historic event, since such events were not held for many years: "The President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov believes that the meeting of the leaders of Central Asia will give a new impetus to our common aspirations to bring our countries and peoples closer to each other. He also noted that the common goal of the heads of the Central Asian republics is to create a new basis for regional cooperation for the benefit of our countries."

During the conference, Kadyr Toktogulov stressed that the development of cooperation with the countries of Central Asia is one of the priority areas in Kyrgyzstan's foreign policy. In confirmation of this since taking office on November 24, 2017, the President of Kyrgyzstan made his first official visits to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan with the signing of a number of important bilateral documents.

In conclusion, Ambassador Toktogulov said: "Kyrgyzstan has always supported joint efforts to strengthen regional cooperation, and we are actively advocating for improved trade and economic relations between our countries. We will also support joint efforts in the fight against emerging threats to the security of the Central Asian region. "
