Kyrgyz and Russian presidents meet in Sochi

Bishkek, Feb. 10, 2019. / Kabar /. Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov within the framework of his one-day working visit to Sochi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Feb.9.

The two leaders discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, the Kyrgyz President’s press service reported.

In addition, the sides discussed the details of the upcoming state visit of Vladimir Putin to Kyrgyzstan, which is scheduled for late March 2019.

Vladimir Putin expressed his gratitude for accepting his invitation and arriving in Sochi for such a brief and in depth working visit.

“As we agreed, we will be preparing for our next meeting in late March, to be held in Kyrgyzstan. We will continue our conversation both regarding economic cooperation and our joint efforts to consolidate the Eurasian Economic Community – there is work to be done. We just spoke about our efforts to protect the common customs contour. Here, Russia did everything it could to render Kyrgyzstan the necessary support. We will of course continue to discuss our work in the field of military construction and cooperation. We need to examine the defence industry in order to keep your enterprises busy,” he said.

We discussed the protection of our common customs loop. Russia has done everything to provide the necessary support to Kyrgyzstan. On issues of migration policy, we understand how sensitive this is for Kyrgyzstan,” the Russian president said.

He stressed that on all the other issues discussed, the details will be worked out within a month and a half and expressed the hope that at the meetings in Kyrgyzstan at the end of March all questions would be finalized.

Sooronbay Jeenbekov expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet and discuss issues of bilateral cooperation.

“Kyrgyzstan is looking forward to your visit to our country. For us, this is a very important political event. We are always glad to meet you in Kyrgyzstan, at meetings with you many issues of bilateral cooperation are resolved. We are grateful that you support the positive resolution of issues of bilateral cooperation. We highly appreciate our historical friendship, which has been strengthened over the years,” the President of Kyrgyzstan concluded.
