Kyrgyz banknote of 2000 soms wins contest among currencies of Europe and CIS countries

Bishkek, Feb. 27, 2018 / Kabar /. A commemorative banknote with a nominal value of 2000 soms became the winner of the International Contest The Best Regional Banknote of 2018 among the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the CIS countries, the press service of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic (NBKR) reported.

This reward is awarded for outstanding achievements in the field of design, the use of modern protective elements in the context of decoration, as well as technological equipment and security of the banknote, the bank explained.

"In addition, special attention is paid to the reflection of cultural heritage, as well as the relevance of the overall design and symbols of issuing country. Russian banknotes worth of 200 and 2000 rubles, a commemorative banknote of Armenia with a nominal value of 500 drams, a memorable banknote of Poland with a nominal value of 500 zlotys, as well as a banknote of Georgia with value of 5 lari were also claimed for the highest award," the report said.

The competition for the best regional banknote of the year was held as part of the annual International Conference on High Security Printing, which took place on Feb 19-21 of this year in the Polish capital, Warsaw. High Security Printing is the largest regional annual conference dedicated to production, printing, security elements of banknotes and other securities.

The commemorative banknote of 2000 soms was issued on Nov. 17, 2017 and is devoted to several important events in the history of the country: the 25th anniversary of the independence of the Kyrgyz Republic, the 25th anniversary of the NBKR and the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the national currency.
