Bishkek, May 28, 2021 . / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov signed a Decree on posthumously awarding “Erdik" medals to servicemen of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security, his press service reported.
The medal is awarded to following border guards for showing courage and bravery in the performance of their military duty:
- Captain of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan Esentur Kubanychbekov;
- Captain the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan Manasbek uulu Nursultan;
- Warrant Officer of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan Bekzodbek Yuldashev.
An armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border occurred on April 28 after citizens of Tajikistan began installing video surveillance cameras at the water intake in the village of Kok-Tash in Batken Oblast of Kyrgyzstan. As a result of the verbal altercation, the residents of the two countries began throwing stones at each other. On April 29 the situation escalated, the Tajik side opened fire. The armed forces of the Kyrgyz border service retaliated.
The situation stabilized only on May 1 after negotiations between heads of the State Committees for National Security of Kyrgyzstan Kamchybek Tashiev and Tajikistan Saimumin Yatimov. The parties agreed on a complete cease-fire and the withdrawal of non-border guard forces to their locations.
As a result of the armed attack, 36 Kyrgyz citizens were killed, including three servicemen, and the rest were civilians, including two young children.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan considered the actions of the Tajik side as military aggression.
