Bishkek, Sept. 5, 2023. /Kabar/. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov held talks with visiting President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Akihiko Tanaka, the press service of the Cabinet reported.
During the meeting, the sides discussed Kyrgyz-Japanese cooperation in the fields of economy, education, culture, climate change, tourism and sports.
The head of the Cabinet noted that Kyrgyzstan appreciates the assistance of the Japanese government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which has been implementing projects in the most priority areas for many years.
“We regard Japan as a long-term, reliable and friendly partner. Considering that Japan is a leader in such areas as automotive, shipbuilding, construction and metallurgical industries, energy, robotics and food industry, I express interest in cooperation in the above areas,” he said.
Akylbek Zhaparov also noted the success of cooperation in the field of human development within the framework of the grant program (JDS) of the Government of Japan for the training of state and municipal employees of the Kyrgyz Republic in Japanese higher educational institutions.
“Alumni of this program are currently working in high positions in the state bodies of Kyrgyzstan. We are interested in continuing this program and are considering the possibility of increasing the annual quota of scholarship holders in the country for admission to your universities under the JDS program,” said the chairman of the Cabinet.
In addition, during the meeting, the sides focused on the success of the One Village - One Product project, which shows good results. Thus, JICA President Akihiko Tanaka said that he witnessed the work carried out in the Issyk-Kul region on this project, especially the participation of women, and the active implementation of such a project testifies to the economic development of Kyrgyzstan.
At the end of the meeting, it was noted that several bilateral official development institutions are working effectively in Kyrgyzstan, and it was proposed to consider the possibility of creating the Kyrgyz-Japan Development Fund.
