Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers decides to send peacekeepers to Kazakhstan

Bishkek, Jan. 6, 2022. / Kabar /. The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan issued a statement on sending Kyrgyz peacekeepers to Kazakhstan.

The Cabinet of Ministers said in a statement:

“We receive messages from brotherly Kazakhstan about riots that have led to human casualties and serious material damage with pain in our hearts.

Our people are connected with the people of Kazakhstan by the closest ties and fraternal bonds. For many years we have watched with admiration and rejoiced at the successes of the fraternal people on the path of socio-economic development and strengthening of statehood. Until the last moment, we expressed confidence in the ability of the people and the leadership of Kazakhstan to independently and without any outside interference solve all the issues they face in accordance with their own national interests.

However, late yesterday, Bishkek received an official appeal from President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, on the provision of security measures by the Kyrgyz Republic within the framework of the allied obligations of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). In accordance with the CSTO Charter, the UN Charter and existing bilateral agreements on strategic partnership between our states, as a result of intensive consultations with partner states, as well as additional personal negotiations with the leadership of the brotherly state, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov made a decision to initiate before the Jogorku Kenesh of the issue of sending a limited contingent of armed forces to Kazakhstan with a mandate to participate in the CSTO peacekeeping operation. At the same time, the role of the military unit of Kyrgyzstan should be strictly limited to the protection of strategic facilities and not include any interaction with the civilian population or the responsibility to ensure public order.

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Commander-in-Chief of the country's armed forces, in full accordance with the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic, appealed to the Jogorku Kenesh with a proposal to consider the issue of making a decision on authorizing the sending of a military unit to the territory of Kazakhstan.

The Cabinet of Ministers appeals to the people of Kyrgyzstan, to all socio-political forces of the country with an appeal to treat this decision with full understanding and responsibility. As a close neighbor and strategic ally of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic has no right to reject a call for help from its legitimate authorities and will fulfill its obligations to the extent necessary within the framework of the CSTO. ”
