Bishkek, Apr. 29, 2020. /Kabar/. Today, the city of Bishkek is turning 142 years old, the press service of the capital’s Mayor’s Office reported.

Employees of Tazalyk municipal enterprise from the Ala-Too central square joined Transformation challenge, and in honor of the capital’s birthday the Eles musical group gives all citizens its “Dream City” song.

"We wish every townsman to be truly happy, to live in wealth, wellbeing and to be healthy. Let everyone have their own beautiful story, which took place in the streets of beloved city. For the city is us, the people who live in it...", the message says.

Earlier the city was called Pishpek, during the Soviet regime it was renamed in Frunze (after Soviet party, state and military figure Mikhail Frunze).

The official date of foundation of the city is Apr. 29, 1878. On that day, military governor of the Semirechensk region Gerasim Kolpakovsky gave a command to transfer the centre of Tokmak district to the city of Pishpek.

Today, this date is considered to be the City Day, which is dedicated to a variety of cultural, sports and entertainment events.

Nowadays Bishkek is a modern city with many restaurants and cafes. At the same time, the Kyrgyz capital still retains its former Soviet style with Soviet buildings and gardens dominating the new ones.
