The event was opened with a video address by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
"Chingiz Aitmatov made a great contribution to the history of the Turkic people, his works unite the whole Turkic speaking world. His work is an intangible cultural heritage, not only of Kyrgyzstan and Turkey, but of the whole world," he said.
In turn, Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev thanked the representatives of the Turkish side for their attention.
Well-known Turkish cultural figure and film director Omer Erdogan also made a speech on behalf of all Turkish people.
He noted Aitmatov's contribution to creating a cultural bridge between the West and the East.
"His works opened a new world for me. We are grateful to him for his cultural activities and for creating unique masterpieces," Erdogan said.
The Turkish director also pointed out that due to the epidemiological situation, it was decided to split the events in honor of Chingiz Aitmatov into two.
"The first is taking place today, in the birthplace of the writer, and the second is planned to be held in Ankara on June 9-10, 2021," Omer Erdogan explained.
The first Issyk-Kul forum was held in 1986 in Issyk-Kul and was conceived by Chingiz Aitmatov as an intellectual platform for free discussion of global problems.
The second forum took place in 1997 already in independent Kyrgyzstan
President of Turkey Suleiman Demirel took part in it as a guest of honor. The conversation at the forum concerned the fate of national cultures in the era of globalization, as well as the prospects for the development of the newly independent states of Central Asia.
The third Issyk-Kul Forum was held in Kyrgyzstan without its founder in 2018 and was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the writer.
