Kyrgyz capital’s budget exceeds KGS 10B for first time

Bishkek, Jan.20, 2020. /Kabar/. For the first time, the budget of Bishkek has exceeded KGS 10 billion, Deputy Mayor for Economic and Financial Policy Almaz Baketayev said at the press conference.

According to the deputy mayor’s data, this is first time when the city's revenues totaled about KGS 10.2 billion, great majority of which are tax revenue.

The budget of the Mayor’s Office is socially oriented; 50%, or over KGS 5 million of which is allocated for the maintenance of the social sector, education, health, culture, sports.

Baketayev said a transition from a consumer to an investment budget is being prepared.

He added a novelty of the budget year will be a project for the implementation of civil initiatives, and now citizens can submit projects through the deputy corps, receiving funding to improve urban infrastructure.

"About KGS 150 million are envisaged for citizens' initiatives. By the way, now all data on the movement of funds will be publicly available in real time on the website of the Mayor’s Office,” added the Deputy Mayor for Economic and Financial Policy.

According to Head of the Economic and Investment Department Meder Aliyev, large-scale projects are currently being implemented both on public-private partnership and international, through the EBRD and the Asian Development Bank.
