Kyrgyz citizen, who died in Sakhalin rescuing sinking girl awarded posthumously

Bishkek, Aug. 3, 2018. / Kabar /. A Kyrgyz citizen, who died while rescuing a sinking girl in Sakhalin will be awarded a posthumous medal "For the rescue of drowning people", and his family will be rendered material assistance, the press service of the Kyrgyz Government reported.

The body of the 17-year-old Zhandarbek Kubanych uulu was brought to his homeland and buried three days after the tragedy.

The accident took place on July 29 in Russkoe Lake in Sakhalin region of Russia. Vacationers witnessed an accident: the young man, without waiting for rescuers, rushed into the water after seeing a sinking girl. He managed to save the girl, but himself could not reach the shore.

According to Russian media, the divers arrived to the lake by the evening, and the search for the body of the drowned was postponed. The next morning, the divers found the body of the young man. He was a native of Kara-Kulja region of Kyrgyzstan Zhandarbek Kubanych uulu, who came to visit his friends for a while. The girl rescued by him is a resident of the Sakhalin region.

Members of the Kyrgyz diaspora in Sakhalin opened a special account and collected the necessary amount to send the body to the homeland.

The Government of Kyrgyzstan intends to provide financial assistance to the family of the deceased, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the country will award him posthumously.
