On June 2, 2020, with the assistance of the Kyrgyz Embassy in Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan's M Bulak company on behalf of the Kyrgyz people transferred humanitarian aid to the people of Uzbekistan, affected by the dam burst of Sardoba reservoir in Syrdarya Region, the press service of the Kyrgyz Embassy reported.
The handing over ceremony was attended by Advisor of the Kyrgyz Embassy in Uzbekistan Nurlan Dzhumaliyev, Deputy Mayor of Syrdarya Region Daniyar Madirimov, Regional Prosecutor Ravshan Masharipov, elders of region and regional media.
The humanitarian cargo included 20 tons of alimentary products, 20 tons of rice, 10 tons of vegetable oil, 10 tons of sugar, 5 tons of drinking water and 10 tons of potatoes.
During the event, the Uzbek side thanked Kyrgyzstan for the regular support of the population of Uzbekistan's Syrdarya region.
In the morning of May 1, 2020 one of the dams of Sardoba reservoir in Syrdarya Region had burst.
56 people were hospitalized, about 70 thousand people were evacuated to safe areas, 20 people were rescued from the roof of houses and trees, there were no victims.
Several settlements were flooded, roads and agricultural lands were damaged.
The Sardoba water reservoir was built in 2017 and has a capacity of 922 million cubic meters of water. Over 10 local Uzbek companies were involved in its construction.
A criminal case has been initiated in the republic over the collapse of the Sardoba reservoir dam.
