Minister of Defense of the Kyrgyz Republic Baktybek Bekbolotov at a press conference at the Kabar Agency said that at a meeting with the Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zas, he proposed to deploy a CSTO peacekeeping contingent on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border to resolve the conflict.
“I recently met with CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas. I said that there would be no peace between the Kyrgyz and Tajiks. The Kyrgyz have their own truth, the Tajiks has their own. Until an arbitrator comes between us. For example, to deploy a small contingent of the CSTO in our disputed areas so that it can solve several problems: control of the ceasefire and withdrawal of heavy equipment from the state border. Then we can solve the political task of delimiting state borders. This situation has been going on not for 30, but for 98 years,” he said.
Bekbolotov also criticized those who are trying to stir up the situation around the agreement on the delimitation of certain sections of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border.
“Today, the country's leadership is trying to improve relations with neighbors and resolve the issue with disputed sections of the borders. Now the issues of delimitation of the state border are being perfectly resolved with Uzbekistan. We only benefit from it. And then within our society, turmoil begins. Now we absolutely do not need destabilization on the border with Uzbekistan,” the minister said.
