Bishkek, March 25, 2022 . / Kabar /. The sixty-sixth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is held in New York on March 14-25 under the theme "Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction strategies and programmes".
The Kyrgyz delegation took part in the opening and side events of the session at the level of Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN Aida Kasymalieva, the Foreign Ministry of Kyrgyzstan said.
Speaking at the General discussion, Kasymalieva noted that the Kyrgyz Republic is committed to fulfilling its international obligations to combat climate change within the framework of adopted and ratified international conventions and agreements.
She also emphasized that Kyrgyzstan takes into account the importance of achieving gender equality and empowerment of women and girls in the context of climate change, and to effectively promote de facto equality has introduced gender approaches in key strategic documents and action plans.
The permanent representative also emphasized the role of women in mountainous areas of the country. She informed that in the rural mountainous areas, where 65% of the female population of the country live, women are most exposed to risks and negative consequences of climate change and natural disasters. Studies show that about 70% of victims of natural disasters are women and children.
The event is attended by representatives of 180 UN member states, international organizations and civil society.
