Kyrgyz delegation organizes High-Level Meeting on Sustainable Mountain Development in New York

Bishkek, Sept. 21, 2022. / Kabar /. The delegation of Kyrgyzstan, on the eve of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, organized a High-Level Meeting on Sustainable Mountain Development in New York.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, this event was held in order to consolidate the efforts of mountainous countries in promoting the mining agenda in the international arena.

More than 90 delegates from all over the world attended the Meeting, including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Andorra, Hungary, Bhutan, Nicaragua, Malawi and Lesotho. In their speeches, they highly appreciated the initiative of the Kyrgyz side in organizing this event, and also expressed support for the efforts of the Kyrgyz side to promote the interests of mountainous countries.

The event was also attended by high representatives of such international organizations of the UN system as the World Bank, UNEP, UNDP, UNIDO and others, who expressed their readiness to support the mountainous states in every possible way in promoting their interests in the international arena. This support was provided by the First Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammed and the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Cui Dongyu.

The high-level meeting was the most important event held within the framework of the current International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development, declared by the UN last year at the initiative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov. The meeting was held to support the draft resolution of the 77th session of the General Assembly on the announcement of 2023-2027 "Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions". Within the framework of the upcoming five years, the Kyrgyz Republic intends to promote a wide range of initiatives in the field of environmental protection, disaster management, health development, sustainable access of mountain communities to electricity, education, science, and culture in mountainous countries.
