Kyrgyz economy may lose $ 450 mln due to coronavirus

Bishkek, March 19, 2020 /Kabar /. The estimated damage in Kyrgyzstan from a coronavirus is likely to be USD 450 million, Prime Minister of the country Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev told during a parliamentary meeting.

He said that this includes shortfalls in taxes, customs and business damage.

“It is also predicted that GDP growth may be even less than 2%. But now we are taking measures, an anti-crisis plan, which envisages measures to resume business, etc.,” the prime minister said.

The first case of coronavirus in Kyrgyzstan has been registered on Wednesday. Three Kyrgyz citizens, who returned from Saudi Arabia from Umrah, have been tested positive.

In connection with the coronavirus and to prevent its spread the Kyrgyz authorities cancelled all the activities and closed educational facilities, kindergardens, food courts and so on.
