Bishkek, Sept. 18, 2020. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Economy plans to ban export of great and small cattle to Uzbekistan due to growth of meat prices, Chairwoman of the Kyrgyz Land Association of Exporters and Importers Lenara Niyazbekova told during a press conference at Kabar News Agency.
According to her, price growth is observed not only for meat, but for all agricultural goods.
“One of the main reasons for the rise in prices for products was the surge in dollar. The initiative of the Ministry of Economy to introduce restrictions on export of cattle to Uzbekistan will strangle exporters' work. It should be also noted that one of the most probable reasons of rise in prices for cattle meat may be illegal export of live cattle from border areas of Dzhalal-Abad and Batken Oblasts. We ask state bodies to fight against smugglers who compete with honest exporters. Smugglers don’t provide benefit to the state budget,” Niyazbekova said.
She noted that for 8 months of 2020, export of 1 million 720 thousand 580 heads of cattle to Uzbekistan made up 0,3% of the total cattle population, 6 million 266 thousand 739 heads of small cattle - 0,4%.
"These figures show that legal export lacks. We ask the Economy Ministry to analyze the situation before making a decision, because the work of honest exporters of Kyrgyz products, who have been making supply agreements for years, may suffer. It's also unfair to farmers because the prices of pet food have also gone up," Niyazbekova said.
