Bishkek, Apr. 11, 2020. /Kabar/. The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic is not a hindrance to spring field work, Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Agriculture, Food Industry and Land Reclamation Erkinbek Choduyev said at a briefing.
He added special headquarters for supervising, organizing and carrying out spring field work have been established in all regions and districts by a government decree.
"I want to note that even in the current difficult situation in the country, spring field work is going on. For today, a total of 1 million 219 thousand hectares of land will be sown. This is 2.3 thousand hectares more than last year," the minister said.
"Due to this situation, there is an increase in wheat sowing. I would like to note that the harvest has been certified and is already being used for sowing in the field.
At the moment, there is no shortage of grain. However, farmers are now asking more for the supply of wheat grains. The ministry, for its part, is providing all necessary assistance and support. 5 thousand ha more wheat is expected to be sown,” Choduyev added.
The agriculture minister stressed the work is going at a good pace. Two oblasts, Batken and Chui, have already fully completed the sowing.
Wheat is also being sown in Talas and Dzhalal-Abad.
