Kyrgyz film Munabiya nominated for Nika award

Bishkek, Feb. 28, 2019. / Kabar /. The Russian Academy of Cinematographic Arts announced the nominees for the 32nd Nika Prize.

The winner of Nika in the category "The Best Film of the CIS and Baltic Countries" was the Kyrgyz film "Munabiya", directed by Taalaibek Kulmendeev. The picture will challenge the first place with such ribbons as “Berlin-Akkurgan” (Uzbekistan), “Affectionate indifference of the world” (Kazakhstan), “Beautiful corruption” (Moldova) and “Crystal” (Belarus).

The winner award ceremony will be held March 30.

The film “Munabiya” was shot on the basis of the short story by famous writer Kazat Akmatov, receiving recognition from cultural figures as “The Best Work of the Year” of the late 70s.

In the synopsis of Kulmendeev's picture, it is said that the film demonstrates the image of a beautiful, strong, independent and wise woman, to whose share many tests have fallen. “Munabiya” is a love story of Kyrgyz Romeo and Juliet, the description says, “although the characters are not young lovers, but aged people”.
