Kyrgyz film nominated for Oscar

Bishkek, Nov. 20, 2020 / Kabar /. The Oscar Committee of Kyrgyzstan has nominated the film "Zhoo Kuluk" (Running to the Sky) for Oscar.

According to the press service of the committee, the meeting of the national committee was held the day before, on Nov. 19, at the House of Cinema.

The Zhoo Kuluk film directed by Mirlan Abdykalykov will compete from Kyrgyzstan for participation in the nomination Best International Feature Film.

The 93rd Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) will be held on April 25 in Los Angeles. Now the Oscar committees of foreign countries are choosing their candidate for the long-list of the award, and after that a special jury of the film academy will select the short-list.

The Kyrgyz film describes the dramatic story of teenager Zhekshen, who is fighting to preserve the most sacred for him - his own family, film director Mirlan Abdykalykov raises the current topic of children living in single-parent families, left without parents in difficult conditions.

Against the background of everyday and mundane rural life, Zhekshen goes through great human trials and solves adult problems, without losing his childish naivety and childishness. Having discovered his talent in running, he participates in school races and Tusho toy (bond cutting ceremony), where he has no equal. This film focuses on human relationships, such concepts as friendship, loyalty and love.
