Bishkek, July 3, 2020. /Kabar/. The Lake film of Kyrgyz director Emil Atageldiev film has been selected in the official program of the Asian New Talent Award International Film Festival, the press service of the Department of Cinematography of the Kyrgyz Republic said.
The full-length feature film, which is debut work of Atageldiev, will be shown at the cultural event to be held in China’s Shanghai from July 25 to Aug. 2 this year.
"The story is based on an ancient Kyrgyz legend about the souls of ancestors living as fish in a sacred lake. It is an existential drama, a parable about the inner conflicts of heroes, freedom of choice and one's own path, unfolding against the background of the stunning landscapes of the mountainous Issyk-Kul lake," the synopsis says.
The Shanghai International Film Festival, abbreviated SIFF, is one of the largest film festivals in East Asia.
"China's biggest film festival" according to the Hollywood Reporter ranks third in the list of 15 A Class film festivals, which was compiled by the International Federation of Film Producers' Associations (FIAPF) in 2014, inferior to Berlin and Cannes.
